About
“I am a thing that thinks, that is to say, a thing that doubts, affrims, denies, understands a few things, is ignorant of many things, wills, refrains from willing, and also imagines and senses.”
René Descartes (1596-1650)
Thingthatthinks.com is the website of Martin Böhringer. I am a PhD student in the field of Management Information Systems from Chemnitz/Germany with special interests in Social Software and Web 2.0. I was strongly involved in the idea and concept of the Enterprise Microblogging tool Communote.
During my studies I had several projects as an independent web developer and worked as a consultant for enterprise applications (i.e. SAP) with IBM, Siemens and a few small and medium enterprises. From September till November 2008 I was visiting research fellow at Norwich Business School (University of East Anglia/UK). With the help of Prof Stuart Barnes I run a research study in Twitter there.
As research assistant at Chemnitz University of Technology I was project manager of the open source Business Intelligence tool PalOOCa. I won a few prizes (one for business ideas, two for student projects). Beside of that I love playing piano, doing sports and visiting Sweden.
